German New Wave

I realized that several of the New Wave bands or songwriter-singer I've been listening to are German. I might have mentioned or posted about them before, but it's good to do a feature here. 80s music for the win!

Nena - 99 Luftballons

Well, it was a smash hit. I like the German version better than the English. It's such a good song.

Sandra - In the Heat of the Night

I adore this songwriter-singer. The first song I've heard by her is "Midnight Man" on the radio. If you love 80s music, can't get that song wrong. She married Michael Cretu, who is the musician of Enigma, and took parts in vocals of New Age music.

Modern Talking - Geronimo's Cadillac

Modern Talking might be better categorized as 80s synthpop and disco. They became Eurodance in the 90s. They remind me of the Bee Gees. Although their songs all sound the same, "Geronimo's Cadillac" is my current favorite, and also "You Can Win If You Want".

Alphaville - Sensations

A band that I've been listening to for a while. They have a variety of good 80s styles and are best known for "Forever Young".

The Camouflage - The Commandant

A good song I just found two days ago. As someone commented on Youtube, this song is reminiscent of Depeche Mode.

Peter Schilling - 120 Grad

I love Peter Schilling! Most of his songs were actually sung in German and it's hard to find them on the Internet.

There are more German New Wave bands out there. I feel like many songs sung in German had more distinct styles than what we're used to, like American and English music, though they're probably not as popular. I hope they are more available on the Internet and the majority of people are more willing to listen to lyrics that are not their mother languages.

Yazoo - Situation

Situation performed by the British synthpop duo Yazoo. The lead singer is Alison Moyet. Just by listening to this song, for months, I've been thinking she was a man ... (as embarrassing as when I thought the Bee Gees were women)

Second Shpongle Live

Someone said something like people commonly feel a change in consciousness or hallucinating while listening to the music of Shpongle.
I agree. Once I was definitely tripping out of Star Shpongled Banner and A New Way To Say Hooray while listening to Shpongle's 2nd album.

I was very lucky that Simon Posford decided to perform in Madison again this year. This time I was a fan, so I had to go! Even though I had exam the next day and I was sick. My throat hurt like craps when I biked to the theatre.

Shpongle is not only a musical experience but also visual. The projections are the prettiest things ever!

This was the stage design this year. Somehow I liked last year's better. (Last year's looked more badass hurhurhur.)

There was a guy who made a sparkling mask like that. Excellent!
Simon played the Prometheus remix of A New Way to Say Hooray. Ohh I love that remix.

Everyone cheered as (DMT) Divine Moments of Truth started to play. It was a remix as well.

It was so funny that Simon not only swung to but also sang along to those "lyrics" and even weird sounds in his songs. The DMT remix had a "DMT ... LSD!" in the middle. I laughed when Simon opened his eyes widely and squealed along with it.

Is it just me or I think those projections are leaning more toward the tryptamines (as opposed to like phenethylamines and LSD)? But for Shpongle, of course, haha.

THAT WAS A FREAKING MANTIS! I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE IT. SIMON I LOVE YOU!!

Around the World in A Tea Daze, with different cultures as projections. Here are Taj Mahal with an Asian paper umbrella and a Chinese character. How sweet!

I met a few very interesting and passionate cosplayers. I asked for photos with them.

A guy dressed as Raoul Duke from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I told him he'd look even better with a cigarette.

A "fake Simon". This big fan made the hat and dressed like this to look like Simon. He kind of does if his beard was a bit shorter doesn't he?

I don't know what this person was supposed to be. I said you look like a shaman. He replied, I like to think of myself as one. But he doesn't know any spell or magic.

Sadly Simon left immediately again after the show. No one got to really talk or interact with him. Except he touched the finger tips of a few people at the very front.
So I guess I have to post one of my drawings on his FB one day.

I was so Shpongled. For a long time ringing in my head was all Shpongle's music.

Boogie Fever ... Again

After downloading a collection of 70's and 80's disco music I caught boogie fever again! This is at least the second time. Can't stop.
I'm so happy because the collection has many funk tracks that I wanted to have. Man, I love funk and disco so much!

Funkadelic and its sister band Parliament are one of the pioneers in funk music. This track might not sound impressive at first but it's so infectious! It's awesome.

Growing Sick of Those Pop Songs

Folks are really obsessed with a song called Call Me Maybe lately. When I was on the STLF community service tour, people played it everyday, sometimes a few times a day, on the bus, singing, shouting, and dancing to it. Several people asked me if I liked the song, I was like, huh ...

Today my group in PE class gave our final presentation. It was a success! But when we were doing the exercise, the music both my group and the other group chose to go along with is ... Call Me Maybe. Now it's just too much and it stuck in my head! NOOOOOOOUUUUUU!!

The other song my group chose was Sexy and I Know It. But I mean, those two are such bad songs, and they're so popular! There are a few other currently popular songs that I'm growing sick of, too.

I've been listening to a lot of poppy stuff such as Erasure, Alphaville, Hall & Oates, BT, Scissor Sisters, Aqua, and even Duran Duran sometimes. Pet Shop Boys is pop too. A lot of dance songs today are house or techno. I listen to house and techno too. But why I just can't stand those pop songs that people around me play all the time? AHHHHHHHH! Please, no more Call Me Maybe!

Wet Earphone

The kitchen in my apartment was ignored for way too long that it was so disgusting. I had to clean it. I spent two hours after dinner just to clean the microwave, stoves, and bench. The sink was clogged so the water just didn't drain. Suddenly, my right iPod earphone dropped into the dirty water! After I cleaned it, I could hardly hear anything from the right. I thought I ruined a set of earphones! Fortunately, it recovered its function after air-drying completely. Phew!

Now the stoves are clean but the floor is dirty. I have to clean it tomorrow. I got bored so I went to another free music live, Steez, a somewhat popular Madison's local band. My friend Michael was there, too. Nothing could be better than listening to music while dancing with your friend!

What a weird name is that? I have no idea. I usually just call it "Simply Being Loved".
It's the 4th track from BT's album, Emotional Technology, and is one of BT's most popular tracks.
What surprised me is this track holds Guinness Book of World Records' song with largest number of vocal edits (6178 edits).
What? Does it sound like it has that many? Uhhh maybe? I bet BT must be very perfectionist.
BT is poppy but I love some of his tracks. The double play of Superfabulous and Somnambulist is pretty poppily delicious.

I sent out the application for a nice little efficiency on Langdon St. on Friday, and watched an idiotic movie, The Muppets (2011), on the same day. Pretty good day. :)

Ahh, if I have my own kitchen and bathroom, I'll keep them very clean. And I won't be sharing hallway with anyone. In fact the building doesn't have hallway, so I won't be smelling the annoying smell of pots from neighbors everyday.

P. S. I got good grades on midterms wooooohooooooo!

My weekend wasn't very productive. I felt so sleepy and still do. At least I finished my texture project for Art 102! Woohoo!
I'll post it when I have a good photo of it. (Maybe the art teacher will help me. He's a photographer.)

Dubstep Is Cool

Hanna introduced dubstep to me, but I didn't appreciate this genre then.
When I began to listen to Pendulum, I listened to dubstep without even knowing it.
Now dubstep is very popular and people play it at dance parties.
How interesting most people can't even dance to this "EDM" but just stand there or shake their heads.

Look at the basic beats of dubstep. Oh my gosh, these are complicated beats!

I checked out other molecules in DMT's family and found there's a guy named Diisopropyl Tryptamine. He produces mainly aural hallucinations that distort sounds, lowering their pitches and making them sound like flanging (mixing two identical signals with one delayed). And he does little visual hallucinations. What a strange guy. So I decided that he loves dubstep, wears/carries headsets everywhere, produces hallucinations of playing dubstep loudly, and bangs his head violently. LOL

I didn't do any homework on the first day of class but went to a bar to listen to my friends' duo performing. They're called Color Me Once. Ahh good day ... This is probably the last day I can hang out and kill time.

When I heard the lyrics, I can't help thinking this song is funny. :)
"Probably the most beautiful song about masturbation ever written," some people said.
Then I wanted to know who was this Lily and see her pictures so much. Some suppose the song was referring to Lillie Langtry (stage name), who was an actress and indeed died in 1929 as stated in the lyrics.
What kind of father when his boy complained about insomnia, would give him pictures of a beautiful woman who was dead decades ago? That's weird and cruel. LOL Poor boy, but I still can't help smiling to the lyrics. I think I'm beginning to like the Who.

今天不想開伙，就到一家中國同學們都推薦的餐廳Fugu Asian Fusion去吃飯，聽說非常的道地。看看菜單就知道是偏四川口味的，想說五更常旺是最沒有辦法在家裡做的，就點了一份。還不錯，但比台灣的油，我可以確定這大概是你能在美國找到最中國的中國菜。五更常旺的英文居然是pig intestine and blood with salty cabbage。材料是這樣沒錯，可是怎麼聽起來這麼噁！美國人敢點嗎？

題外話：這首Queen的歌讓我想到Michael Jackson！跟MJ也同時代的啊。

A Little Statistic on My Fabulous iTunes

Just thought it'd be fun to do a little statistic on my current iTunes because I think my collection is fabulous! I want to have an idea about the diversity of my music too. I put whole albums, not just single songs.

Is there an upper limit of how many songs I can add into iTunes?
