The Paintings of Music

Oh those wonderful synesthesia-inducing artworks!
Can you hear them?

Robert Delaunay, Circular Form, 1930

Vasily Kandinsky, Yellow—Red—Blue, 1925

Vasily Kandinsky, Dominant Curve, 1936

Sonia Delaunay, Rhythm, 1938

They are so spiritual!
I could have the copy of one of those in my room.

  2. It's cool
I like that kind of irregular lines composed with brilliant color than it will figure out another 3D fantatic visual felling.

  3. The first painting by Delaunay, I always think some electronic tracks will represent it so well. Look at the right part, which is more dynamic, like a not-bass-heavy drum sequence. The left part, very serene and light, is like the synth part. For the fourth painting, the painting itself is a beautiful ambient or IDM track!

  4. 我贊成貼一些在你的牆壁上,要不然滿屋都是化學式和昆蟲解剖圖,很像一個廣告詞中說的:「人生是黑白的」,這樣好像太乏味了些。

  5. 可是你要去哪裡找這樣的海報?

  6. You said that because you don't like insects (or chemistry). You have no idea how insects enrich my life and make my life colorful.

  7. I agree with you on your interpretations of Delaunay's works!

  8. It's "the Delaunays". I think Sonia Delaunay is Robert Delaunay's daughter. Their works could look similar sometimes. :)

  9. Synesthesia does exist, but I feel like it's a really personal thing, related to experience. Kandinsky wrote essays about synesthesia, but of course electronic music didn't exist at his time, so he interpreted each color and form as sound of a specific classical instrument.

Synesthesia of electronic music hit me almost instantly when I first saw those paintings. I also saw a few others that induce music more like rock!
